Introduction to Continuous Improvement -- Lean Accounting
Speaker: Chris Vashro has a BA in Accounting from Boise State University. He also holds an MBA from Northwest Nazarene University. Chris has held the position as Controller of a small credit union. He was in the Corporate Accounting department in one of the nation’s largest grocery store chains. Currently, he is Operations Accounting Supervisor for Simplot Growers Solutions a company of the J.R. Simplot Co.
Chris was trained in Continuous Improvement through the Gemba Research Group and the Lean Enterprise Institute. He was the lead in a “Lean Transformation” which included 94 people and eleven departments.
Learning Objectives: Introduction to Lean concepts that were developed over 60 years by the Toyota Motor Co. as well as practical application of these concepts in the office setting.

Program Content: For almost 60 years the history of the Toyota Motor Co. is one of Continuous Improvement (C.I.). The idea of C.I. has transformed Toyota into the leading auto maker in the world. The recent economic times has not left Toyota untouched. However, their ability to recover and change as the market does is one of their strengths. What can we learn from this company? This course will help us identify waste and the impact it could have on our bottom line. This course will also help identify value-added processes and give you understanding on what truly is the core value stream of your job/business. In addition, it will provide practical tools to use in your daily jobs. Finally, we will touch on Lean Accounting and the increasing trend toward this accounting perspective.
